Greetings from the KCCBS & OCH Alumni Association!
As I write this letter, I am reminded of a story I read about an impoverished young man who lived in New York City. He ventured out to New York City on a dream and fell victim to the harsh life of the city. He had only strangers as friends, and as a result, began entertaining the thoughts of quitting and going home. Just as he was ready to throw in the towel, he encountered a boxer and heard these words:
In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade, and he carries a reminder of every blow that laid him down or cut him until he cried out in his anger and his shame, 'I am leaving, I am leaving!' but the fighter still remains.
There is something special in that phrase, "The fighter still remains." Those are the words of a person who sticks to the task until the job is done. He stays the course. He does not quit. Our human tendency is to quit too soon. How about you? Do you have projects around your house still incomplete? Piles that need organized? Letters to write? Let's not stop before we cross the finish line. The KCCBS Alumni Association has many more tasks to complete. We are not satisfied with status quo, but we can only move forward with your support and prayers. Although this has been another banner year for the Alumni Association, we still have much to do for the kingdom. I believe God is pleased when we take a moment to plan how He can use us to enlarge His kingdom. As the old saying goes, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
Our plan?
- Our plan is to host events to encourage alumni to return to campus where they can renew friendships.
- We desire to partner with KCCBS to sponsor quality activities that will present a positive image of the school.
- We aim to be a financial resource to KCCBS by providing Christmas bonuses to the teachers, offering student scholarships, and funding projects from the school's wish list.
These lofty goals are possible as a result of the interest earned from alumni endowments. We believe God would be pleased for us to raise another $30,000 by the spring of 2008 (the school's 70th anniversary) and reach $200,000 in alumni endowments.
Would you like to be in our corner of the ring supporting the fighter who "still remains"?
Do you still believe in the mission of the little Bible school at the corner of 74th & Metcalf?
Do you believe in young people and their potential to turn the world upside down for Christ?
Join with us, won't you?
We are always encouraged to hear from you and to be reminded of your support. Don't forget to mark your calendar for the Alumni Banquet Saturday evening May 12th. The banquet will be a dinner drama, and our students will be performing the play "The Miracle Worker." The evening's activities begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $20. Advance reservations for the banquet are appreciated so we can prepare enough food for the evening. To make your reservations, please call the main desk at 913-722-0272 and press "0" for the receptionist. Due to lack of interest, baby-sitting will not be provided.
We look forward to seeing you May 12th at 6 p.m. for the Alumni Banquet.
Sincerely,
The Alumni Council: Rod Smith, Jeff Collins, Arthur Scott, Aimee Askew
