Independent Study Information

Class work may be completed on an independent study basis by students for whom enrollment in regular on-campus classes is not feasible.

Please note the following:

1. Enrollment for independent studies is open at any time. Students do not need to wait for the beginning of a new semester. Students are allowed up to one calendar year to complete the work for any one class. At the end of the calendar year, if no grade has been entered for that class, an F will be placed on the transcript, indicating failure to complete the work.

2. Many of the classes listed in the catalog can be taken as independent studies. The KCCBS catalog is available online, or you may contact the school for a catalog CD. Degree program listings begin on page 30, while the course descriptions begin on page 40. If you would like to work toward a degree, please let us know, so that a faculty advisor can assist you.

3. Payment must be made in full at enrollment. We accept checks, money orders, or cash, but do not accept credit or debit cards. You may opt to pay through PayPal with the understanding that if you use this service, you will need to add an additional 8% of the amount owed to the total paid to cover fees charged by PayPal.

4. Tuition for independent studies is $200 per credit hour*. Most of our classes are either two or three credit hours. In addition, there is a one-time registration fee of $25.

* The number of credit hours for each class is the same as the last digit of the course number. (For example, the 3 in the course number ENG 113 - a three-hour class.)

5. When you have selected the class(es) you want to take, contact the registrar on our web site for more information and/or to set up an appointment.
