Scholarships

I. Merit Scholarships

Kansas City College and Bible School offers two different merit scholarships to graduating high school seniors: Presidential Gold Merit, and Presidential Silver Merit. Awards values for the various levels are detailed below. Application for scholarships should be made to the KCCBS admissions office. The student will need a letter of recommendation from the high school principal or administrator regarding the student’s academic achievement and a letter of character reference from his or her pastor.

Merit scholarship recipients will receive the following awards for eight academic semesters of continuous enrollment if the student remains eligible.

Presidential Gold - $1,250 for tuition and residential fees (room and meals) for each consecutive semester with the student carrying 12 credit hours and living in the dorm.

Presidential Silver - $1,000 for tuition and residential fees (room and meals) for each consecutive semester with the student carrying 12 credit hours and living in the dorm.

Qualifications

To qualify for a merit scholarship, the student must meet or exceed the minimum cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for all high school work as listed in the chart below, and be accepted as a student at KCCBS. In addition, that GPA must be maintained in order to keep the scholarship in force.

Presidential Gold, GPA of 3.5 or abovePresidential Silver, GPA of 3.2 or above

The student must enroll at KCCBS for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation, carry a minimum of 12 hours and live in the dorm.

II. Needs Based

Needs Based Scholarships of $1,000 per semester are also available.
  1. These scholarships are available when:
    1. There are three or more dependents in the home who are under the age of 21 or are currently full-time college students and the total annual income of the family is less than $50,000.
    2. There are two dependents in the home who are under the age of 21 or are currently full-time college students and the total annual income of the family is less than $40,000.
    3. There is one dependent in the home who is under the age of 21 and the total annual income of the family is less than $30,000.
  2. Certification of financial need is required. A statement in writing from the head of home will be accepted.
  3. The student must enroll at KCCBS for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation, carry a minimum of 12 hours and live in the dorm.

III. Scholarship Grants

Grant Scholarships of $500 per semester may be offered

Scholarships may be granted by the Administration to students who do not otherwise qualify for the Presidential Gold or Silver.

  1. Pastor’s Scholarship – Pastors may, by a letter of recommendation, designate a student who by Christian Character and desire to serve Christ become eligible for a $500 per semester scholarship (See conditions below).
  2. Administrator’s Scholarship – School Administrators or there designees may recommend a scholarship to those students who by circumstance, desire and Christian character are deemed eligible. Such Scholarships are for $500 per semester.
  3. Students with grant scholarships may be eligible for Merit scholarships. In this event the scholarship will not be concurrent and the grant will be included and be a part of the merit scholarship.

IV. Student Agreement and Conditions of Eligibility.

The student who is chosen to receive any of the above scholarships agrees to the following:

  1. Audition for the college choir and sing in the choir each semester the scholarship is in force, if chosen in the auditioning process. If the student is not chosen for the choir, he/she will be expected to work as a volunteer on campus under the supervision of the facilities coordinator for a total of four hours per week.
  2. Write two 100-word articles for the school web page each semester, as needed, that he/she is enrolled in school and receiving the scholarship.
  3. Maintain eligibility each of the four years for the scholarship, the student must remain a full-time student [12 Hrs], maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 for the gold scholarships, at least 3.25 for the silver scholarships, at least 3.00 for need based grant scholarships, and remain in good standing with the College.
  4. When a student is in his/her final semester, he/she will be required to take only enough hours to complete the degree requirements.
  5. Each fall, students receiving need based scholarships will provide another statement of income from the head of home to meet the criteria of the scholarship.

*Each student is eligible to receive only one KCCBS-sponsored scholarship or grant (e.g., the Gold Merit, Silver Merit, Morey Shaver, Pastor's Scholarship, and Administrator's Scholarship) during any one given semester.
